On a day when Andy Murray flies the flag for British hopes at Wimbledon and Ghana look to keep African interest alive in the last eight of the World Cup it can pay to oppose the crowd favourites and back Rafael Nadal and Uruguay to progress at their expense.
Nadal has lost only two of his last 26 matches at Wimbledon, both times in a five setter to Roger Federer, and comes into this match in fast improving form.
Murray is also looking fearsome at present, but although he’ll have a packed centre court roaring him on it’s possible that may have been overworked into the prices available on today’s game, and at 8/13 with Betfred I’ve got to be with Nadal to beat him for the eighth time in their 11 meetings to date.
‘Home’ fans may also be left disappointed in Johannesburg this evening where Ghana (wearers of easily the most stylish shirt at the World Cup) could well be sent packing by an exciting front three of Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan for Uruguay.
For all that they’ve added real entertainment and flair in despatches you’d have to say the Ghanaians may be up against it here.
Beset by injuries and suspensions to important players and having struggled to score goals from open play I fear for them here.
That said it may be a tight affair, so I’m playing it safe by backing Uruguay to qualify at 8/15 with either Bet365 or Stan James.
The double pays a fraction more than 11/8 with Bet365 or Stan James.
