What a week! Winning gambles being dropped all over Ascot like liberally sprinkled hand grenades, punters strongly in the ascendancy, just the way we like it!
Fortunately those of us staggering out of the Berkshire track last night were deprived the opportunity to watch the England game by the clued up local constabulary, who taken the wise choice not to encourage the suited and booted drunken hordes to continue their day of decadence on the streets of Ascot.

Judging by the state some patrons were in by 7pm you would have had to fear for the town centre and the potential for mass mayhem when a disconsolate Rooney & co trooped off the pitch in Cape Town just couple of hours later.
Casting aside those bad memories we’ll try and continue the successful punting trend this afternoon with David Barron’s Philosophers Stone a strong fancy to win on his first ever try in handicap company at Redcar this afternoon (4.10pm).
Connections say he’s improved markedly since a laboured win in a Catterick maiden last month – greater things are expected of this son of Mind Games in due course, this looks a decent starting point.
A win bet at 5/2 with any of Sportingbet, Paddy Power or Stan James is the way to go.
Back at Ascot for the fifth and final day of a terrific Royal Meeting I’ll be playing up some of my Rainbow Peak winnings on a short thing as Sir Michael Stoute’s Harbinger bids to make it three from three for the season in the Hardwicke Stakes (3.05pm).
The evens that went up early doors during the Morning Line has gone, but at 7/10 with Sportingbet he’ll do nicely to pop in a double alongside Philosophers Stone.
If he brings his ‘A’ game to the party he can prove a cut above this opposition.
My other bet of the day was my charity bet on this morning’s show – William Haggas’s High Standing is my idea of the one to be on in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee over 6f at 3.50pm.
The winner of last year’s Wokingham, this fella has a brilliant strike rate and can continue his improvement here.
The 12/1 each way with any of Ladbrokes, Hills or Bet365 is reasonable.
