Pipe dreams of a Cheltenham super Sunday – today’s tips

The sun’s out, the scene’s set and Cheltenham’s buzzing in anticipation if a truly super Sunday. Today’s card contains a bit of everything – perfect!

With the ground against the odds on favourite in the opener I fancy Irish challenger Fosters Cross to make his mark (1.10pm).

He looked very good in beating Loosen My Load over hurdles at Tipperary in October (Loosen My Load won well here on Friday), before making the switch to fences at Galway, where he handled the stiff uphill finish in style to see off Schelm, conqueror of Paul Nicholls’ Free World at Warwick, earlier in the week.

Fosters Cross will clearly prefer the ground too – snaffle a bit of the 9/4 readily available with totesport, Betfred, Sportingbet or Skybet.

Weekend best bets – Galway, Goodwood & Market Rasen‏

Day 6 here at Ballybrit and a tricky looking card for punters to try and unravel.

There’s a tight look to the front of the market in the 1m Maiden at 5.00pm, and the one to be on is Crying Time, who ran a cracker when a 33/1 shot to go down three parts of a length when to Aidan O’Brien’s Vicount Nelson on his racecourse debut, and can improve from that experience to see off Mikhail Glinka and Waajida.

Next up at 5.30pm I can pass on a good word for Dermot Weld’s Natural High in the Festival Bumper in the colours of Moyglare Stud. They say this son of Sadler’s Wells is working like a horse ready to win on his racecourse debut.

Over at Goodwood in the 7f Maiden at 4.15pm Richard Hannon’s Invincible Soul looks over priced at 14/1 with Bet365 – back him to make the frame.

Friday’s best bets at Glorious Galway and Goodwood‏

As my old mate John ‘Scouse Lobster’ Cruces (of Betfred and Talksport fame) frequently likes to remind anyone within earshot ‘it’s a marathon, not a sprint’, a point you’d have done well to remind the dishevelled looking masses pouring out of Ballybrit at the end of a riotous Ladies Day last night, but with three days still to go it’s hats off to anyone braving the wind and rain to make it there for Friday’s evening fixture.

The best bet on the card looks to be Paul Flynn’s in-form Drunken Sailor, bidding to record his first win of the season with conditions to suit in the Arthur’s Day Handicap at 6.50pm.

In finishing second to Aidan O’Brien’s current Ebor favourite Changingoftheguard in the Ulster Derby at Down Royal over 1m 5f he posted an eye-catching display and proved his stamina for the trip.

With Padraig Beggy again in the saddle and taking a valuable 3lbs off a similar effort can prove good enough here.

Deutschland ready to taste Guinness Hurdle success‏! (Plus Thursday’s Goodwood Tips)

It’s Ladies Day at Galway and I’ll be applying a liberal splash of Blue Stratos before throwing myself into the fray on day 4 of another brilliant Galway race week.

After an anxious wait to see whether or not he’d make the cut, connections of Guinness Galway Hurdle favourite Deutschland are in line for a bumper pay day as the Willie Mullins-trained six year old prepares to take Thursday’s major prize.

Campaigned over fences and on the level recently this in-form son of Red Ransom would have faced the imposte of top weight in the Plate, but instead opts for this far more attractive looking assignment with a mere 10st 5lbs to shoulder.

Herr Ruby Walsh gets the leg up and can boot home Deutschland in front of a packed Ladies Day crowd at Ballybrit on his first hurdles start since January.

Ghanaati primed for Goodwood Glory – Wednesday’s Goodwood & Galway tips‏

Dual Group One winner Ghanaati can make it a hat-trick of top level successes in this afternoon’s BGC Sussex Stakes at 3.25pm (live on C4).

Something of a surprise package when she took the 1,000 Guineas at 20/1 back in May, she stepped up markedly on that by routing them in Royal Ascot’s Coronation Stakes, and with the fillies’ allowance strongly in her favour this afternoon this well made daughter of Giant’s Causeway can see off the colts in this clash of the generations.

Of the opposition the talented Paco Boy faces a tough ask trying to concede 11lbs to our selection, while there’s no way I can entertain backing Rip Van Winkle at prices as short as 11/8 when he too has to give weight (3lbs) to an outstanding filly, but more importantly failed to handle the camber when fourth in the Derby at Epsom – it’s anyone’s guess how he’ll cope with Gooodwood unique undulations.

Ghanaati rates a confident selection at 5/2 with Coral.

Galway Festival Tips – Monday 27th July

Fifty Two weeks of waiting are over and the assault on the senses, which is the Galway races are back!

The opening race at 5:10, a two mile Novice Hurdle, can fall to the ever powerful Willie Mullins & Ruby Walsh combination courtesy of Tarkari, available at a best priced 5/1 with Boylesports.

Bet £20 Get £20 Free when you Open an account at Boylesports this week for Galway & Goodwood

Given the testing conditions (which should suit Tarkari far more than several of today’s rivals), a drop back in trip should be ideal.
