They key fancy for matchday 24 of the La Liga campaign arrives in the early slot on Sunday (11.00am), as goal happy Real Sociedad entertain my relegation tip Levante at the Anoeta.
Granted, the home team haven’t had a long recovery time since Thursday’s night Europa League combat at home to Red Bull Salzburg (a 2-2 draw in which they let in a 94th minute equaliser), and are also only just dusting themselves down from losing 5-2 to Real Madrid in the capital last weekend, an encounter in which they improved dramatically as soon as embattled manager Eusebio shuffled his pack, bringing on the youthful influence of defensive shield Igor Zubeldia, who in turn opened up the game for Asier Illarramendi and Xabi Prieto to do their stuff and markedly improve their team.
Eusebio is a man under pressure, so hopefully he goes with those three from the outset and doesn’t start too tentatively!
After all, you’ve only got to go back two weeks to find his team banging in five without reply against struggling Deportivo, and on a bad run 17th placed Levante look equally vulnerable against a side who’d be lethal if they could defend better.
Two points from a possible 18 highlight Levante’s recent difficulties despite the fact they’ve found the net four games running, and this is precisely the sort of fixture which can help propel the home side into warmer waters and genuine mid-table security.
Real Sociedad aren’t bombproof, but even so they should deliver here – the value looks to be Sociedad to win in a game where both teams score – a 2/1 chance with any of bet365, Coral, Hills, Ladbrokes or Victor.
Predictably if you follow this column, my other pick comes at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday afternoon (3.15pm) where 2nd-placed Atlético Madrid tackle the team sitting in 13th, Athletic Bilbao.
That Athletic Club have failed to score in their last two domestic outings and also had to go all the way to Moscow on Thursday for Europa League duties (a terrific 3-1 win at a lethargic Spartak) only furthers the suspicion a trip to face in-form Atléti, a side who’ve still only conceded nine league goals all season, is something bordering on mission impossible, thought it’s worth mentioning Atléti did do something extremely rare on Thursday – concede a goal – as they cantered to a 4-1 Europa victory of their own away to FC Copenhagen.
I expect normal service to be resumed here, so the call is Atléti to win to nil – a 19/20 chance with BetVictor.
This weekend’s best bets in La Liga:
11.00 Sun – Real Sociedad v Levante (Home win & both teams to score) @ 2/1 (Bet Victor)
3.15 Sun – Atlético Madrid v Athletic Bilbao (Home win to nil) @ 19/20 (BetVictor)
