England travel to Belarus on Wednesday as they look to maintain their 100% start in Group Six of the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers. England have had their fair share of critics recently and under Steve McClaren, they were totally justified. However, under Fabio Capello’s tenure, the team are showing signs of improvement and whilst some of the performances may not have been ground breaking displays of ‘perfect football’, the workmanlike effort and commitment suggests that progress is being made. One only needs to look at the manner in which England dispatched Croatia last month to realise that the team have made giant strides since the disappointment of failing to qualify for the European Championships.
Problems still exist when playing at Wembley, namely the pressure and expectation levels from the support and media but when on the road, I suspect that Capello knows exactly what it takes to win. Twelve months ago, the 2/5 quote with Bet365 about an England win in Belarus would have been far from banker material, but now I would be suggesting that any big hitter capable of making the 2/5 pay dividends gets his money down as a comfortable England win should be on the cards.
I personally will be looking at the correct score betting on this match in an attempt to harbour a bit more value than backing an odds on chance. Whilst Belarus are no longer the push overs in the world of International football, they once were, I am fully expecting a clean sheet and at least two goals from England. Therefore, covering a 2-0 England win at best odds of 11/2 with Ladbrokes and the 3-0 win at Bet365 will yield odds of just over 13/5 when you split yor stake accordingly (43% on 3-0 and 57% on 2-0).
