If like me you’re doing the sensible thing and boarding an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin and making the short hop to the Curragh this weekend then you’ve every right to be excited, for while John Oxx might not have made his mind up about Sea The Stars taking his place in the Irish Derby, everything else looks set fair for a cracking two days racing at the County Kildare venue under the gaze of the RTE cameras.
Just keep your fingers crossed your flight isn’t similar to the one I caught a short while back for the Irish Guineas weekend containing a hen party from St Helens, who chose the ideal location of the rear rows of a passenger aircraft to stage a fight over who exactly had earned ‘air miles’ with the prospective groom, so to speak. With the insults raging and a bout of shoving occurring at 34,000 feet my best piece of advice is not to let them catch you laughing. I know this to be good advice as I failed to heed it….

There looks to be plenty in the favour of Sir Michael Stoute’s talented four year old Sadler’s Wells colt Doctor Fremantle as he steps back up in trip to 1m 4f in Saturday’s Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (3.05pm), a race his trainer has done well in down the years.
His seasonal reappearance did this column a favour bearing the narrowest of wins from Staying On in Chester’s Group 3 Huxley Stakes, a performance full of grit as he could easily have chucked in the towel after being forced wide on the bend.
Stoute had indicated the Coronation Cup would be his likely destination after the Chester win, but patience in choosing this softer target can yield dividends.
Don’t forget his trainer wasn’t afraid to pitch him in against the very best last year, with a Group 3 win at Chester complemented by a fourth in New Approach’s Derby, plus a fourth in the Grand Prix de Paris and a disappointing show in the St Leger due to the ground.

First up, it’s hats off to Yeats and connections – irrespective of what you backed in the race you’re watching the wrong sport if you weren’t roaring him home. The type of magic all too often absent from the Flat scene.
It’s another cracking day’s racing on Friday, and Barry Hills’s hugely exciting filly Ghanaati looks like the one to be with in a cracking renewal of the Coronation Stakes (3.45pm).

Hills won this four years ago with Maids Causeway, and in Guineas winner Ghanaati he looks to have a filly who’s at least as good. A 25/1 shot at Newmarket, she looked pretty special that day on what was only her third start, and can progress again.

Three winning favourites meant the punters were very much in control on the first day of the Royal Meeting, and with Richard Hughes’ 88/1 treble, a new Guineas favourite in Canford Cliffs, plus Mastercraftsman’s street fight with Delegator stealing the headlines, there was something for everyone. Brilliant.
They even let me into the Royal Enclosure with a top hat that looks like it was stolen from a tramp. Big mistake!
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the older horses take centre stage in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at 3.45pm, and I’m sweet on the chances of Eric Libaud’s French challenger Vision D’Etat taking the £255,000 first prize back across the channel.

Whether your having a warm Fosters and a bag of cheese band onion on the sofa in front of the BBC coverage or quaffing champers and munching on a lobster in the Royal Enclosure you can’t fail to be impressed by the stellar line ups attracted to Royal Ascot for today’s brilliant six race card.
The opening Queen Anne Stakes at 2.30pm sets a real poser for punters with Gladiatorus having his first run in this country after a breathtaking win in the Dubai Duty Free at Nad Al Sheba.
He’s now in the care of Saeed Bin Suroor, and with the Godolphin horses not firing on all cylinders and I’m prepared to take him on given that he encounters a straight mile here rather than the round course he was so impressive on in March.
Paco Boy’s explosive finishing kick could be a lethal weapon here, and although some still have lingering doubts about his ability to see out the mile let’s not forget he did take the bet365 Mile at Sandown Park not so long ago, before managing only fourth in the Lockinge when they say he wasn’t right on the day.

With Tom away this week, he has left his weekend column in the trusty hands of Betting Directory tipsters and whilst Mr Lee has been soaking up the sun, we have had our heads in the form book in an attempt to point our loyal readers in the direction of a few winners and continue Tom’s impressive strike rate with a third winning Saturday on the bounce.
The pick of this weekend’s action comes from York and Sandown, where the Channel 4 cameras will be covering seven races from across both meetings. With Royal Ascot just days away, it certainly isn’t a vintage weekend of Racing action but there are still a couple of good opportunities to get amongst the winners.
Our first tip of the week came on Wednesday in the form of an antepost selection ahead of Royal Ascot which kicks off on Tuesday next week. We have advised that you snap up a bit of the 3/1 about Yeats to win the Ascot Gold Cup on Thrusday. The only bookmaker still offering the 3/1 about the Aidan O’Brien runner, who is bidding for a record fourth successive win in the race is Ladbrokes, and we aren’t expecting the ‘Magic Sign’ to hold that price for too much longer.

Tom is on holiday this week, so he has left his column in the trusty hands of the Betting Directory editorial team! Despite him sunning himslef in warmer climates, he has still found time to pick up the phone and point us in the direction of some value about potential winner – in the form of Yeats to win next week’s Ascot Gold Cup at an attractive price of 3/1, a price generally available with most bookmakers.
The Aidan O’Brien trained Yeats will be bidding for his fourth successive Ascot Gold Cup victory when he lines up for next Thursday’s Group One, 2 mile 4 furlong trip around the Berkshire track. Should he win, he will become the first horse ever to win the race four times and currently shares the record of three back to back victories with the great French horse of the 70s, Sagaro.
His first win in the race came back in 2006 when he won at odds of 7/1, when he proved that he loves every yard of this marathon trip and he followed up in 2007 and 2008 at odds of 8/13 and 11/8 respictively, with last year’s win being the most decisive with a winning margin of five lengths back to Geordieland in second place.

Epsom’s world famous Oaks and Derby fixture attracts racegoers of all shapes and sizes, and they’ll be flooding in in their thousands to witness two days of top class racing.
A field of 13 are scheduled go to post for the Investec Derby (3.45pm, Saturday), and I’m very keen on the chances of Guineas winner Sea The Stars becoming the first horse since Nashwan 20 years ago to do the double.
Immediately after his Newmarket success, big race jockey Mick Kinane said he’d be “some spin in the Derby”, and nothing I’ve seen in between times suggests he can’t follow up now he steps up in trip.
