Past Punchestown Festival winners know the Punchestown Racecourse extremely well and have proved they have what it takes to stay the course and come out ahead. So immediately punters should consider any 2008 winners who will be in action again in 2009. Particularly if they have a touch of class about them. An examples of these would be Neptune Collonges, Blazing Bailey, Twist magic and Punjabi. If any of these run this year then they should be closely watched.
To find a winner at Punchestown with the best good odds, punters should look for potential champion horses that have underperformed in races prior to the one you intend to make your bet. Recent good form doesn’t always indicate a likely position or win at the Punchestown Festival.
There are many winners who have been poor prior to the Festival but have found their form – this is often due to the course being popular with some horse and not others. It is therefore wise to look for horses with good previous Punchestown form.
If you allow the betting of a race decide the likely winner – and many do, make sure selection is based on whether or not the horse has a top jockey on board. Top jockeys and trainer usually have a great record at the Cheltenham Festival also.
